PORTRAITS AND COMMISSIONS

Picture
Hank. Oil on Panel. 18x24. 2018.

Your original oil portrait will become a family heirloom. It will be passed down from generation to generation and treasured. Only the finest archival pigments and panel are used.

Please contact me by phone or email to inquire. I am only able to take a limited number of commissions in the course of a year, so if you are planning for a special occasion, be sure to contact me four to six months in advance.

SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

HOW MUCH DOES A COMMISSIONED PORTRAIT COST?
Commissioned portraits in oil start at $500, depending on the size and details included.
12"x16" $500
16"x20" $725
24"x36" $1200
Half the fee is expected at the beginning of the project, and the remainder upon delivery. For more than one person, add an extra 50% per person. (NOTE: If you commissioned your portrait prior to March 2021, the previously posted prices will apply)

CAN YOU USE A PICTURE I HAVE, OR DO YOU TAKE YOUR OWN?
I prefer to photograph the subject myself so that I can control the lighting, point of view, and other factors that are important to the quality of the portrait.
But I can usually work from your existing photographs if I need to. This is often the case if the subject is geographically far away or even deceased or if you want to use an image from an earlier time. It helps to have multiple images so that all the details and the personality can be captured. Here's a link to a blog post that explains some things to watch out for in choosing a reference picture

CAN YOU DO A WATERCOLOR OR PASTEL PORTRAIT?
Watercolor paintings or pastel or charcoal drawings are also available. They must be framed behind glass. They don't take as long, so the cost less with prices starting at $125.

WHAT ABOUT PET PORTRAITS?
I love capturing pets and horses! I can do pet portraits in oil, pastel, or watercolor or even felted wool!
Wool is the perfect medium for a pet portrait. This is a needle felting process. It can be done on burlap or fabric or even in 3-D sculpture. You can even incorporate some of your pet's own fur into the portrait, and keep your furry friend with you forever. Wool pet portraits start at $125.
