The Serpentine Chain: Appalachia and Celtic Britain
The Fairy Bridge. 24×30. Oil on Panel.
I’m so excited to share this early look at a nearly finished painting of one of my favorite places on earth — the Fairy Bridge at Glen Creran in Scotland. This stone bridge has been here for centuries, and when you’re standing there, you can just feel the stories and the magic in the air.
The wispy, wind-tossed branches, the mossy stones, the rushing water — all of it stayed with me long after I left. As I’ve been painting, those twisting tree limbs keep pulling me right back to that spot.
I can’t wait to share this and other new works with you in person — the Serpentine Chain show opens on December 13 at Johnson County Center for the Arts with an artist/author talk at 1pm. Sharyn McCrumb and I will share the inspiration behind the upcoming book. The Serpentine Chain: Appalachia and Celtic Britain. Together, we are celebrating the deep geological and cultural connections between the mountains of Appalachia and the ancient highlands of Celtic Britain.
