The Governor’s Arts Awards was a night to remember!
Governor and First Lady Bill and Maria Lee with the recipients of the 2025 Governor’s Arts Awards
Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee hosted the 2025 Governor’s Arts Awards in Nashville, recognizing eleven outstanding individuals and organizations who represent the highest levels of excellence in arts and culture across Tennessee.
Among this year’s honorees was Cristy Dunn, recipient of the Arts Leadership Award for East Tennessee—and the first Johnson Countian ever to receive this distinction.
Dunn serves as the Executive Director of the Johnson County Center for the Arts, where she has helped transform downtown Mountain City into a vibrant destination for public art, cultural tourism, and community engagement. Her vision and leadership have been instrumental in projects such as the Mural Mile, the Long Journey Home Festival, and the Johnson County Junior Appalachian Musicians program.
In her remarks at the ceremony, Dunn spoke about her deep love for the region, the role of the arts in strengthening rural communities, and the importance of honoring those who came before.
“I have chosen to live and work in that same small town where I was fortunate enough to grow up,” she said. “I am humbled to see my name listed among these amazing artists and art leaders, and I am proud to accept this award on behalf of those who came before me and those who work alongside me.”
Congratulations, Cristy, on this well-deserved honor and for representing Johnson County and Northeast Tennessee with excellence and heart.
I’ll be forever grateful for friends and family that celebrated with me!
